UV Light: How to Properly Clean Your Probe’s Glass Filter

January 11, 2019 By Gary

We have become aware many of the UV Light Meters probes we receive for calibration require cleaning the glass filters before an accurate calibration can occur. Contamination build up on the glass filters can and will give false readings. The purpose of this paper is to provide you with the proper method, we use, to clean your probe’s glass filter should the need become necessary.

Warning: Do not clean glass filters that have a rough or porous surface. Contact G&R Labs at (408) 986-0377 for cleaning instructions..

Step 1: Required materials

  • Edmund’s Optics Lens Cleaner “EO”
  • Solon Care Q-tips
  • Electronic grade air can
  • Do not use a substitute cleaner i.e., Windex

Step 2: Cleaning Process

  • Hold the Air Can in an up-right position and blow off any loose particles.

Step 3: Q-tip

  • Very lightly dampen the tip of the q-tip until slightly blue.
  • Using a circular motion, gently clean glass.
  • Dry with another q-tip, again using a circular motion.
  • Inspect the glass filter and remove any loose cotton on the surface or around edges.
