About Us

G and R Labs - Model 320 MeterFounded in 1995, G & R Labs is a direct extension of George’s many years of designing, manufacturing, and consulting in light measurement. The G & R Labs’ only business is to design and manufacture UV Light Meters and to offer light meter calibration service for all existing UV light meters, regardless of the light meter manufacturer. Customers include anyone who needs to measure UV light in the UVA, UVB, UVC, visible, and near infrared spectrum’s requiring accuracy and repeatability.

George Richardson founder of G&R Labs and co-founder of Optical Associates (OAI) has over 35 years of experience working with UV light and the measurement of UV light. Mr. Richardson, in 1973 co-founded OAI as VP and chief engineer. His responsibilities included the design, development and production of the UV light meter product line that became the standard, world wide, for measuring UV light used in the photolithography process during the manufacturing of semiconductors. One of George’s main responsibilities included establishing calibration procedures necessary to meet the stringent demands the photolithography process requires.

Mr. Richardson is also responsible for:

  • Implemented NIST standards when calibrating UV light meter probes
  • Developed the correct spectral response glass designs that are now a standard and still used in today’s UV light meters
  • Established quality control procedures for purchasing optical glass required for accurate and repeatable probes
  • Designing a UV light meter capable of using interchangeable probes with a single UV light meter
  • Issuing calibration certificates with each new UV meter purchased and all re-calibrated UV meters

Specialists at Light Measurement Problem Solving

In addition to being a light meter manufacturer and provider of light meter calibration services, the team at G&R Labs also works with customers to achieve optimum G and R Labs - Model 202 Metersolutions for their light measurement equipment, Special Projects. Frequently G&R Labs suggests customers employ new ways of making measurements, saving them time and new light measurement equipment investments. Alternatively, in some cases the solution requires a special probe or modification of an existing one. Whatever the customer challenge, G&R Labs brings the expert knowledge and skill sets to devise the optimum solution.

G and R Labs - Wand/Quartz Rod ProbeA customer-centric company, G&R Labs understands the importance communication plays. A “live” person always answers the phone to direct callers to someone who responds quickly. The same situation applies to email communication. Fast response to customer’s light measurement needs and one-day turnaround time on light meter calibrations is the company standard.

With experience and expertise to back them up, it’s easy to see why customers keep coming back to G&R Labs for all of their UV light meter needs. Contact us today and let us support your light measurement needs.
